I am a proactive, motivated Manager with over 22 Years NHS experience within Primary and Secondary Care including 10 years Senior Management experience. I have a professional outlook with a high level of communication and engagement skills and experience of leading several teams. I am able to communicate confidently and effectively with Patients, Clinicians and colleagues.
I have Excellent IT skills and a working knowledge of GP Clinical Systems, including EMIS WEB, Microtest, System One.
In addition, I can offer a sound knowledge of the Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF), GMS contract, Local Quality Schemes (LQS) & CQUINS, QIPP, Clinical Governance, Health & Safety and Employment Law.
I can offer excellent facilitation and problem solving skills with ability to think laterally. I have managed large and small scale projects across the NHS and have excellent business change and problem solving skills.
I have excellent team leadership skills and have led multiple teams that cover Cheshire, Wirral and Warrington across several locations.
I have the ability to analyse and interpret complex data, including clinical data and am able to work in a methodological manner. In addition, I am familiar with PCT budgets, PAYE and forecasting.

Mike Pyrah – Director of Howbeck Healthcare
Mike left the NHS in 2012 after a 34 year career. For the last 17 years of those Mike was a NHS Chief Executive, undertaking this role in both a NHS Trust in Wolverhampton and for a large Primary Care Trust in Cheshire. Throughout his career Mike has always undertaken regional and national work particularly in his areas of interest which include, Social Value, Primary Care Development and Organisational Effectiveness
Mike was a policy Board Member for NHS Employers for 6 years, a Board Member of the NHS Equality and Diversity Council for 3 years, and the President of the Healthcare People Management Association.
Since leaving the NHS Mike has undertaken a wide range of consultancy assignments before he and Dr Neil Paul formed Howbeck Healthcare in 2014. Mike is primarily involved in supporting GP Federations and in bid development.
Dr Neil Paul – Director of Howbeck Healthcare & GP
Neil has been a full time GP Partner at SandbachGPs in Sandbach, Cheshire, since August 2000. He is nationally known for his DigitalHealth.net column that discuss the highs and lows of IT in primary care and as a speaker and presenter and author in trade magazines such as GP, Medeconomics and EMIS User on topics including IT, Data Quality, QOF, business efficiency and primary care finances.
Neil was on the PEC of CECPCT and was involved in PBC and subsequently was on the GP executive of NHS South Cheshire CCG as Chief Clinical Information Officer. Neil’s main clinical interests are Cardiovascular medicine, Diabetes, Gastroenterology and Rheumatology. He still does 6 sessions a week in practice so understand the reality of general practice.
Neil provides clinical leadership to Howbeck and his clinical work provides a lot of the inspiration for our projects.
Joanne Goodwin – Senior Pharmacist
Joanne is a senior pharmacist who has worked for the last 5 years in a GP practice. She has experience of working in a medicines management team previously. She currently works for us with one of our GP federations and has been involved in recruiting and training 14 pharmacists for the pharmacist in practice scheme, helped create setup and run a innovative pharmacist in care homes scheme and is a master of all medicines related topics inc waste, antibiotic use reduction, scriptswitch, formulary creation etc.
Joanne brings a range of medicines related skills and knowledge to Howbeck.
Tina is a Registered Nurse who has recently left the NHS after almost 35 years. Her clinical experience is in community nursing and her management experience included 12 years varied Executive Director roles in PCTs, Acute Hospitals and Community Trusts, mainly Director of Nursing and Quality or Operations
Tina’s particular interest and expertise are : Nursing and AHP leadership ; governance, quality , patient safety and risk; workforce development and redesign; and service redesign that meets the needs of patients and carers.
Tina is also a CQC specialist advisor and is involved in CQC inspections.
Tina is working with Howbeck Healthcare on a range of projects including a major Community Services procurement and a innovative ‘Primary Care Home’ new models of care project.
Dr Pippa Hunter-Jones PhD
Dr Pippa (Philippa) Hunter-Jones is a Reader in Marketing based within the University of Liverpool Management School. She has an active interest in health-related research and is currently working on multiple projects linked to the patient experience and service (re)design. These include:
- Working with her colleague Lynn Sudbury-Riley at Liverpool, and Neil Paul and Mike Pyrah at Howbeck Healthcare Ltd, to secure research funding for two PhD students:
- Rachel Spence who is exploring doctor/patient relationships;
- Lauren Sinton who is investigating Federations and Alliances in primary healthcare
- Working with her colleague Dr Benito Giordano at Liverpool, and Mr Iain Hennessey at Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust Hospital, to secure research funding for a further PhD student:
- Katie Neary who is exploring innovations in healthcare
- Supervising two DBA students who are exploring the patient experience in a New York Hospital; and care home environment.
- Working with practitioners on projects linked to primary healthcare; acute healthcare; care homes and end-of-life care.
- Working on a multi-country study of online health information
- Working with Neil Paul at Howbeck Healthcare Ltd, and the Institute of Learning and Teaching at the University of Liverpool, to deliver CPD programmes linked to ‘The Business of General Practice’. She delivers a session on ‘Marketing yourself and maximising your patient experience scores’.
Pippa is part of the Consumption and Experiential Marketing Knowledge Platform in her School, the Heseltine Institute and is an elected Governor at Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust Hospital.

Alison is a director of Fourth Leaf Consulting and is working with Howbeck Healthcare as a Project Manager leading on a range of projects for our GP Federation clients.
She has 24 years experience in Healthcare IT and Project Management.
her expertise is in developing, training and supporting IT systems in a variety of different services including GP, Community Health, Hospice Care, Acute Health Services, and Education software.

Sue is an experienced ex-NHS manager that is currently contracted to act as the business manager for the South Cheshire and Vale Royal GP Alliances.
Sharon is a senior and experienced medical secretary and an IT whizz. She is doing a masters in management and provides IT and secretarial support to Howbeck Healthcare in its contracts.
